Gail Nichols Gail Nichols is an Australian ceramic artist, recognized internationally for her innovative approach to soda vapour glazing. She makes vessels with soft organic forms and lush dimpled glazes that appear to ooze out of the clay itself. Gail’s studio is located near Mongarlowe, at the foot of Mt. Budawang. She teaches at The School of Art, Australian National University in Canberra, and regularly exhibits her work in Australia and overseas.
The finished large bowl being made here was accepted into the Korean World Ceramic Biennale 2007, a major international competition where even to be accepted is an Honour, Gail has won a Bronze prize. Gail's book Soda, Clay and Fire, which outlines her innovative approach to soda vapour glazing, has just been published by the American Ceramic Society.
