John Gannon 

John Gannon was born in Sydney and his family were among the first settlers in Moruya in 1820. He frequently visited Araluen and Braidwood in his childhood.

John is a multi-skilled craftsman & artist, he studied silver & gold, lapidary and gemmology and specialised in opal jewellery in the early 1970's. John then went on to study mixed media at the Sculptors Association in NSW involving painting, drawing, sculpturing and bronze casting. He also spent some time working with ceramics.

John got interested in glass in 1994 after undertaking a glass summer school at the Sydney College of the Arts in kiln forming and casting. He then went on to study glass blowing with Rob Wynne & Associates in Sydney and participating in additional glass workshops including one with Bob Carson of the USA.

To further his glass knowledge, he visited glass-blowing facilities in Czechoslovakia. England & USA. While in the USA, he studied wooden mould making for glass in West Virginia at the Cherrywood Mould shop.

In 1993 John established an oil & kerosene lamp business in Sydney later moving it to Braidwood.
