Les Kovacs

Les Kovacs grew up watching his father creating masterpieces in oil, pastel, crayon, water color and ink. It was natural for him to pick up a brush and paint, and was also natural to become a teacher who has a great capacity to inspire his students to become the best at their art or craft.

While his love of painting remains, for the past 30 years Les has applied his artistic talents to mastering photography as a medium for expressing oneself.

He applies great artistic discipline to creating (now digital) images, finding inspiration in nature, objects and people.
Les subscribes to the philosophy that the image technically and the composition artistically must be perfect in expressing one’s views because post-editing technology should only be used on rare occasions.

“One cannot make a bad image good in Photoshop, it has to be a good image to start with. And if one has a perfect image, the picture will speak itself or, if desired, then can be used as a basis for digital art. An image, or picture, can be abstract or expressive just by the nature of the composition, the balance of light and shadows, the application of depth of field and, of course, the subject matter.”

For the same 30 years, Les has inspired many youngsters to become masters at the art of photography and it would not be unusual for any of them to turn up for a visit from as far as New York, Brasil, Hong Kong, Brisbane, Melbourne, Eden or Canberra.

Les exhibited his work in Adelaide, Canberra and Braidwood.
