Richard Murray

Richard Murray, one of Braidwood’s well known potters, has evolved shapes, glazes and decorations which reflect , and inspired by, his long time love of over 35 years of the Braidwood landscape.

His pots are both decorative and functional, highly individual and collectible.

Works are all wheel-thrown and fired to 1300° C in a gas kiln.

Richard displays his fine stoneware pottery at the “Pig and the Whistle” Gallery. Any regular traveller to or through the town approaching from the North could anticipate to see Richard’s displays and friendly invitation to browse at the first glimpse of Braidwood.

The Gallery gets its name from the former Railway Hotel, familiarly known as the “Pig and Whistle Hotel”, that stood on this site from the 1850s in anticipation of a railway service to Braidwood which never arrived.
